Latest collection on Gemsdesigns

Well thats that!! Christmas is over and were looking forwards to the New Year.
The New Year uaually brings in new challanges, and this year is no different.
I say new ... its not, not realy, but more of a reinvention.
Many years ago I used to curcuit the Spiritual Health and Healing Fairs, but due to expense of the stalls I gave them up.
Although I still work along those lines, and making custom orders for the Healing Jewelry in Sterling Silver and Crystal/Gemstone, I have decided to make up a selectoion of the Healing Jewelry in Copper.

A bit about Copper Copper link
Here is an extract from the page
n ancient India (before 1000 B.C.), copper was used in the holistic medical science Ayurveda for surgical instruments and other medical equipment. Ancient Egyptians (~2400 B.C.) used copper for sterilizing wounds and drinking water, and as time passed, (~1500 B.C.) for headaches, burns, and itching. Hippocrates (~400 B.C.) used copper to treat leg ulcers associated with varicose veins. Ancient Aztecs fought sore throats by gargling with copper mixtures. And today, many arthritis sufferers wear copper bracelets to relieve pain.

Custom Orders
If you would like any of the Copper Jewelry made in Sterling Silver (Sterling Silver contains 925% Silver the rest is made up of other metals mainly Copper) then please e-mail me for more information.
so without further ado Here is a selection that will be availble, if not already, this week.
Happy New Year and may 2012 be the greatest yet

And before we know it

There’s only 14 days left.
Are you all excited? I'm not quite there yet, suppose I will start to feel the excitement once we get the tree up, but till them, the feelings and tingling are on a back burner.
We had family here up until dinner time, then decided to tidy away all my bits and pieces, cleared the work area and put the table covers for the wash, I may .... Just get another piece of Jewelry finished before xmas but not overly worried if I don’t.
I still have projects that need to be finished, Bit of bunting to sew, Lemon curd tarts to make, a secret Santa gift to make, but I cant put on here what it is in case she pops along and reads it lol.
All the Fairs are finished for me this year, so that means I can pack away the boxes and such, and make sure there is room to sit and eat our xmas dinner :)

I bought a small snowman snow globe the other day, grandson loves it, so I’m thinking of getting him round and having a crafty makes day, where we can get out all the card, glitter, inks, stamps you name it and I probably have it, or know someone who does, I could even let him sew up some little hearts for on the tree.

Anyways I’m sure you don’t need reminding that folksy have some very talented peeps, and there are some fantastic sales taking place at the moment, so pop along and check out these two threads for starters. The one day sale thread and the daily listing thread please note there is a new daily lising thread and one day sale thread every day so pop in to the folksy forum everyday to check them out
And dont forget to visit my shop as a special gift from me get 10% refunded (via paypal) by leaving a note on the paypal invoice stating blog discount. This special offer will end on Wednesday 14th December 2011

Saturdays Share .... What does Saturday mean to you?

What’s Saturday mean to you ??
Me!! Well it is Saturday, not that I do much different, or that’s exciting, but Saturdays is not a Thursday lol.
I usually have Saturdays as a day to go wandering around town or supermarkets, not necessarily shopping as such, but its my day off from crafting, so can take my time when I go out, without thinking, *I have to get back as the natural daylight will be gone*, or *I need to finish an order before the post office's last collection*, not that same day despatch is promised, but do think it adds to the good service if I can manage to fit it in :)
This Saturday was a craft fair but that’s it now for 2 weeks, and next one I can take my Jewelry.
It has been so weird doing fairs without jewelry, but then again its been weird doing the fairs again.
Now as to whether I do any after Christmas is another story, was actually thinking about a gallery or place at, but that’s just a thought at the moment, there will be lots of sleeps and looking into before making up my mind.
Staying on topic ... Its time to sit with a film and a bottle, I try to fit them in on a Saturday night :) but before I go,
Below are a few pictures of my latest makes that have been listed on folksy, I know there aren’t many but I was I’ll for a week so that’s a minimum of 7 less this month than there should have been.
Hope you've had a good Saturday

I've joined BootCamp

Yep, as if my fingers are not fit enough lol

BootCamp is being run on Folksy, the lady behind all this is called Maram, there are quite a few sellers taking part, and the idea behind it is promotion and making sure we are doing what ever we can to make our shops look good, and of course entice the buyer's and show them how good our products are.
The promotion part is not just for ourselfs, we try to promote other sellers as much as possible, as well as following other sellers, this way my followers see items promoted by other sellers and like wise my items promoted by other sellers are seen by their followers.
Below are some items from the BootCamp Group.

To croissant or not

Well I've found a little energy at 6.30, finally! don't know where its come from but it has.
What to do with it, well not quite up to Jewelry making at this time of night, and the light isn't right for sewing, so I've decided to bake.
Hmm Croissants, does anyone else eat them, cook them or just plain hate them, I've not tried them yet, when its something I've never had i like to make my own first so i know what goes into them... I'm kind of strange like that.
Now when hubby and I was on our anniversary break in September ... Our 30 years! ha! it was a doddle lol hmmm.
He tried some croissants and enjoyed them, now baring in mind, its been a while since I did any baking, these looked easy enough to make, but only time will tell, I am using an old recipe from a book published in 1973  but I have changed just a little of the recipe.
The original recipe is just for plain croissants but I cant just do plain, can I? here is the recipe used with my changes in * *
1oz fresh or 1/2 oz dried yeast
3/4 pint of milk & water mixed  and warmed,  *I used 1/2 milk 1/4 water*
1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/4 pound strong flour ( bread flour)
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 oz melted butter
8 oz butter *I used 5 oz*
beaten egg to glaze

Blend the fresh yeast with the sugar and mix with the milk and water, or sprinkle your dried yeast onto your milk, water and sugar, leave for 10 Min's until frothy
Sieve the flour and salt into your mixing bowl, add the yeast liquid and melted butter
Knead lightly to form a smooth dough then leave in the refrigerator for 30 Min's. ( i put my dough into an already cooled clean dish and popped a freezer bag over the top, and placed that in the fridge).

Divide the 8 oz butter into 3 pieces
**Roll out the dough into a oblong, about 21 x 7 inches
Dot one piece of butter onto 2/3 of the dough
fold over 1/3 that has no butter onto half of that which has butter
Fold the remaining 1/3 with butter on top of this ( think envelope ish )
Place bag into the fridge for around 10 -15 Min's**
Do this with the remaining butter twice more **

Divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll each piece into an oblong 18 x 9 inches, and cut each into 5 triangles.

Here is where you need to add your jam or chocolate spread cheese or whatever you choose to use, just add a small amount  to the center at the widest edge. ( base)

Roll each piece up from the base to the point, ( this puts your added ingredient into the center), then turn the ends round to form a crescent.
I did 4 different versions, cheese, chocolate, jam and plain, so i shaped them all different so i could tell them apart.
Place on a greased baking trays, cover with greased clingfilm or food bag and leave to rise for 15-20 Min's.
Brush with beaten egg
Bake at 450F Gas 8 for 10-15 Min's
Allow to cool and eat or freeze if you like

If frozen just pop them onto a baking tray and warm them through about 5-10 Min's, then enjoy.
Now I don't know what these taste like, but my hubby is very honest and I await him to do the taste test, and if they are Carp he will tell me. If they look and smell OK when he's tried them, i might just try them myself :)
I hope you found my blog interesting and it has inspired the cook in you ;)

Evening Bloggers.
Just a small blog from me today.
I'd like to say how the weather has been today but I have not seen much of it lol, its been what I like to call a Jama day.
Basically I get up when I get up and stay in my Jama's/nightshirt and dressing gown all day, just doing whatever I feel like doing.
Well, yesterday started with me getting new and existing items ready for an upcoming craft fair, Sunday to be precise, when i decided to make a new collection, thought maybe do two or three, just to see how they go down.
He he I've ended up with orders already, just from my first sneak preview showing, so I'm having a great time making them up with different colours and slightly different styles.
I will be listing some on folksy in time for Xmas gifts but they wont be exactly the same as these two, BTW these two just need there bottoms finishing so you will  probably see the pins in the bottom.

Ops they are small cushions, helps if I say what they are and there main fabric is suede satin lace, some have English bridal tulle that has been hand dyed, so they are extra scummy.
Anyways back to the sewing machine, hope you like the cushions.

Has it realy been that long

It sure has, its been 8 days since my last post.
So much has been happening that the time has flown by
Apart from watching the leaves falling off a neighbours tree all over my lawn, paving and water feature,
"the water feature is only small but its enough to water the wild life, well it is if they could get to it".
I have been continuing in my quest to sort out lots of craft items and area's, Ive been very good and parted with lots of beads, and there's still a few to sort through.

Next it will be the fabric area to sort through, followed by the wool, card stock, stamps and paints, fimo, oh! yes like many a crafter I have dabbled in many crafts, some how the main crafts (jewelry and sewing) are the ones that never seem to take a back seat, well if they do its only weeks.

Apart from the above I have been fighting my way through the "done plants" weeds and leaves to try and get the garden ready for winter.

Creating more jewelry pieces in silver and in Silver plated, I managed to get a custom order done, "thank you to my buyer who decided she couldn't choose between the two pieces so bought them both"
and finished a custom order on the sewing machine, all this and still had time to make my piece for a craft project I'm working on with other fantastic ladies from a craft forum, this project is Bunting, where we make a flag and post onto the person who is next on the list, so we all get a flag every 2 weeks from a different person, we all make the same, IE this weeks were a star or pontsietta (sp), there is some fantastic talent out there, and its great to see every ones take an a particular subject, every ones take is different.
Right enough of me rambling on!!
Below I have chosen a few items from folksy sellers to bring in the warm autumnal colours, and hopefully help to make you feel toasty warm :-) now turn up the heating and curl up in front of your PC while you check out these goodies and their shops.
Hope you like them
Love Jax

New Bridal Line being added

After much thought, I have decided to add a Bridal range to my Folksy shop.
This is not a new direction for me, I have been working in Bridal for many years, not just in the Jewelry department, but in Designing Bespoke Gowns, Tiara's, Bridesmaid's Dresses, even the odd Mother of the Bride and Prom Dresses, I even had a nice piece in a very popular bridal magazine, did a few bridal shows and catwalk, but the Gowns and Bridesmaid Dresses started to take a back seat in 2009 as of 2010 they were faded out , due to the influx of gowns coming in from abroad at a price I could not compete with, I got so many requests for dresses, the same as what was being sold on another selling site, copy I would not do, simply as I would not like someone copying my work, and I couldn't purchase the fabric at the price those dresses were being sold at, and yes they were hoping to get them at EBay's prices lol.
So it has took me some thinking and have decided the place is Folksy, where handcrafted items are valued, and expected.
So my first piece was introduced today, see below, as with all my Jewelry in Silverspiral, my bridal Jewelry and accessories will be Sterling Silver, if you wish to view Bridal Jewelry in Silver plated or Gold Plated, these will be added to my other Folksy shop Gemsdesigns within the next day or two.
I hope you like the first piece, and please get in touch if you would like a bespoke item for your special day.
Please click on the name at the side to take you for a view of all sides.

Feeling the love

We all have those days where we need to feel special or loved, it doesn't realy matter if its a simple guesture or an expensive item, "although expensive is great", the fact that we have been shown that extra bit of love, can go a long way to making us feel good about ourselfs.Valentines day is not the only time where love hearts are a strong theme and/or appreciated, being a big heart fan myself i can firmly reccomend the warm feeling they give.
Winter and christmas are looming, and most people dislike the cold wet weather, so to help lift our hearts and warm the cockles my blog pictures today are all items "with Heart".

A hand painted red heart shaped plaque.
The plaque can be hung by the natural twine finished with a red gingham bow.

A beautiful Brooch
A lovely addition to your autumn outfit.

Heart pendant/necklace made from red epoxy resin and white lace.

This is a one off Photograph Album which has beautiful embroidery on the front and back.

The scarf is decorated by specially designed Shoogly Beads 'Winter Kiss' polymer clay button. The large heart button reflects the colours in the scarf

This pendant is simple but very striking. A silver-plated leaf is hung in front of a chunky green glass heart, all finished off with a silver-toned bead

These felt Hearts are hand sewn with white cotton. They have large polka dot heart in the middle for some extra love

Set the sceen with this romantic inspired white and pink Heart bookmark and glass cham set.

Cuties for christmas

Today's been one of those " what do we get the grandkids for Christmas" days
.It's something that changes by way of "being added to" and not "instead of",  as the weeks go on, so we tend to buy lots of little items as well as a main one which we get nearer the date. I know the old problem of kids getting to much and not knowing what to play, so for that reason i have included a selection of cute and cuddley items from folksy folks.
I Hope you find something that will give you inspiration, and gift idea's that will help fill their Christmas sacks.
